Larian Studios Hosts Massive Reddit Q&A

Larian Studios recently sat down with fans for a huge Reddit Q/A, answering hundreds of questions about their upcoming Divinity title, Baldur’s Gate 3 lessons, engine upgrades, co-op, modding, AI usage, romance, and more.

The session was honest, technical, and occasionally unhinged in the most Larian way possible.

To save you hours of scrolling, we went through everything and pulled together the most important information, plus some of the moments we thought were the most entertaining.

Divinity Reveal Trailer

If you missed it, Larian’s reveal trailer set the tone for what’s coming next: darker, stranger, and unmistakably Divinity.

Major Takeaways From the AMA

Co-Op at Release

Co-op is planned for launch. Player count will depend on final party size, and modding may allow players to push beyond the intended limits.

Mod Support

Official modding tools are confirmed. Larian has not yet decided whether these tools will be available on day one, but modding is absolutely part of the plan.

Engine and World Scale

The game runs on Divinity Engine 5, designed to support:

  • Larger and denser worlds

  • Improved lighting and materials

  • Higher-quality character rendering

Combat and Systems

The DOS2 magic armor system is gone.
Larian is introducing a new action economy and character progression system built specifically for video games rather than tabletop rules.

Loot Philosophy

Like Baldur’s Gate 3, magic items are expected to be more handcrafted and intentional rather than heavily randomized.

Character Creation

Character customization is being pushed beyond BG3 with more colors, more options, and more player control.

AI Boundaries

  • No generative AI art

  • No AI-written dialogue or narrative text

  • Limited machine learning used only in technical pipelines like animation cleanup and motion work, trained on Larian-owned data

Development Status

The game is in full production, but Larian has been clear that there is still a lot of work ahead. Scope and final size are intentionally not locked yet.

Fun AMA Moments

Not every answer was about systems, pipelines, or production timelines. Some highlights were just pure Larian.

A Spoiler That Makes No Sense (Yet)

Q (u/ilikebreadabunch):
Is there any small spoiler you can give us that will sound completely nonsensical until we play the game?

A (u/Adam_Larian):

“Alligator”

Requested Feature: Ferret

Q (u/toodarkparkranger):
Please put a ferret in Divinity. They're neat.

A (u/Michael_Larian):

“ill do it myself”

Romance Escalation

Q (u/CarrieMoretz):
Will the game be playable in a more third person view, as opposed to DOS2 isometric camera?

(Yes, this somehow led to romance talk anyway.)

Later, on expanding romance content:

A (u/Greg_Larian):

“We definitely want to progress from what we've done before. There's been a lot of learning as to what worked and what people liked. We plan to apply all that for Divinity… also maybe Polar Bears this time??”

Another romance-related request received the response:

A (u/Michael_Larian):

“love is love”

On Sex Scenes

Q (u/Bohya):
…will there be sex scenes?

A (u/Greg_Larian):

“Does a bear… in the woods?”

Which immediately escalated into:

A (u/Michael_Larian):

“WHAT DOES HE DO IN THE WOODS GREG”

Squirrel Lore Update

Q (u/MugGuffin):
Is the threat of Great Acorn still looming over Rivellon?

A (u/Swen_Larian):

“It is not. All squirrels were smited.”

On WASD Movement

Q (u/Plastic-Guarantee976):
The WASD movement mod was one of the most downloaded mods for Baldur's Gate 3. Will native keyboard movement be included?

A (u/Artem_Larian):

“No.”

On Moving to Belgium

Q (u/havasc):
"What's your favourite beer?"

A (u/Adam_Larian):

“People think I moved to Belgium for Larian, but I came here for the beer.”
